Inspired by Ariano Suassuna, famed for "A Dog’s Will", this short film is a prelude to "A Pena e a Lei", created by 9th-grade students from Escola SESI Cambona, in Maceió, Brazil. It was screened at the SESI Festival of Art and Culture in July 2023, touching audiences with its emotional and socially conscious narrative.

Despite the underwhelming winter of 2011-12, in which snowfall reached near record lows and avalanche conditions were unstable around the West, the Powderwhores were able to make the most of the conditions, with trips to Cerro Castillo, Chile; La Grave, France; the Antarctic Peninsula; Svalbard, Norway; British Columbia, Canada, and the Wasatch Mountains in Utah. Without knowing each other, pro mountain biker Hannah Barnes from Scotland and Austrian freeskier Sandra Lahnsteiner set off to a trip to Iceland together. Their plan is to explore the Troll Peninsula while doing both their sports: freeskiing and mountain biking. Hannah however, is only an average skier; how will she feel following Sandra, a pro freeskier with steep skiing experience, into the backcountry? Will she be able to leave her comfort zone, and how can Sandra support her? Vice versa, Sandra will chase the mountain bike girl on the challenging single trails in the vast country of Iceland.By putting on the others’ shoes, the athletes show unseen vulnerability when things turn messy and stressful. The film CONNECTS prompts the audience to connect and identify with Hannah and Sandra and become excited to see how they cope with the challenges along the way.

Backcountry Responsibility

The recent heavy workload faced by Teton County Search and Rescue crews last winter highlights the fact that some recreational users of the Bridger Teton National Forest are in critical need of more and better information regarding best practices and safe conduct on National Forest lands. Many of these incidents could potentially be avoided with proper planning and critical thinking in the backcountry. In partnership with Friends of Bridger-Teton, TGR presents Backcountry Responsibly, a digital film targeted at the growing number of winter backcountry users whose impact on the surrounding public lands has increased dramatically in recent years. SPLIT

Mountains can have a certain energy to them and mountain called Split, located in the High Sierra Mountain Range in eastern California, has an energy with a dark side. Split Mountain is a 14,000 foot peak with a perfect couloir dividing two prominent summits. Visually, it’s a line that begs to be skied yet is guarded by a series of icefalls, rock steps and blue ice patches that make it extremely challenging. On top of that, the towering walls of the couloir present significant rockfall hazard along with an upper basin that can create dangerous avalanche conditions. It’s a line that requires patience, perfect timing…and many many attempts. Over the last 4 years, Cody Townsend, Nick Russell and cinematographer Bjarne Salén have been waiting, trying, scoping and learning about the history of this line, its moods, its conditions and its energy to successfully, and safely, ski it.

Travis Rice typically makes an annual pilgrimage to the mountains of Alaska. There, he finds and rides ridiculous lines and creates films that terrify and/or inspire the rest of us. Last year, COVID broke that tradition. However, fortunately for Travis, there’s plenty of backcountry right in his backyard in Jackson Hole. All of the sudden, he saw an opportunity to reset and reconnect with his old stomping grounds. Epic snow. Incredible terrain. Fresh air and beautiful solitude. Sometimes, Alaska comes to you.
