Blue Skies is loosely based on the Warrenpoint ambush, a guerrilla attack by the Provisional Irish Republican Army, that took place on the 27th of August 1979 where 18 British soldiers were killed with over 20 wounded.

During slavery time, up until 1856, the Romanian equivalent of the word "forgiveness" was used when referring to freeing someone from slavery (the Roma slave was "forgiven" from slavery).
