Virtual Reality

As skateboarding begins to embrace the importance of it's own history, Plan B's second release, Virtual Reality, quickly establishes itself as one of skateboarding's most significant video productions of all time. Only one year after their inaugural release (Questionable Video 1992), Plan B stepped to the fold under the guidance of Mike Ternasky and convincingly shrugged off the sophomore video jinx. In today's massive era of skateboard prominence, Virtual Reality remains a flick that's just as significant for its representation of the period's for and style, as it is for the bar raising development and progression it depicts.

Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter - A feature documentary on the legendary black fighter who overcame his life sentence as a triple racist murderer, freed others wrongly convicted, and put his cause on the front burner. When he was given a medical death sentence that he couldn't escape, he told us his story of how he did it and why we are on a last road trip with him to his spiritual home in KKK country-rural Georgia.

The Smashing Machine

An unflinching look at the life and story of Mark Kerr between 1999 and 2001, an intelligent, articulate, and emotionally vulnerable athlete, considered by many at the time to be the most dominant ultimate fighter in the world. A former Olympic wrestler, Kerr easily dominated all his opponents, earning him the nickname "The Smashing Machine." With the promise of big money and the euphoria of his early victories, Kerr must battle his injuries and inner fears. The shock of these fights takes a heavy toll on his body and mind, and Kerr attempts to overcome these physical and psychological traumas by turning to painkillers. Kerr's addiction is shown in its raw form, with the camera capturing him desperately soliciting drugs from friends and staff, and injecting painkillers into his veins. His shocking defeat to Fujita in Japan shows us a story that is sometimes difficult and heartbreaking to watch.

The Traverse

Valentine Fabre and Hillary Gerardi, two high-level complete athletes, take on the challenge of establishing the first female record on the non-stop Haute-Route, a legendary ski mountaineering endurance race linking Chamonix to Zermatt in 100km and 8000m altitude difference. A feat that the two women take on, as much for personal reasons as for the representation they offer by achieving this great female first.

Fair Game

Heritier Lumumba, formerly known as Harry O'Brien, was in the middle of his best season of AFL when his club president, Eddie McGuire, made a racist on-air comment, suggesting that Sydney Swans player Adam Goodes could be used to promote a King Kong musical. As a man of colour and strong supporter of equality, Lumumba chose to speak out against his high-profile boss. What followed was a media storm and an on-air showdown with McGuire which painted Lumumba as an overly PC, hyper-sensitive villain. Through exclusive access to Lumumba, his friends and family, AFL legends Mick Malthouse, former Collingwood Captain Nick Maxwell and sports journalists, Fair Game uncovers the personal and professional journey of a man who at the top of his game, dared to hold a mirror to a nation that didn't like what it saw.

It also retraces some of the history of this unknown discipline and pays tribute to the pioneers. But the film really focuses on the human aspect and why these people do what they do.

Through this incredible period, and Clay’s subsequent rematches with Liston, William Klein enjoyed unrivalled access top Clay’s camp – witnessing at first hand Cassius Clay becoming Muhammad Ali and angering the American people with his allegiance to Islam. Forward to Zaire 1974, and the return of Muhammad Ali to the world stage to face another invincible champion George Foreman. As Ali reclaimed the crown for a second time, Klein was ever present, capturing the full story at close quarter.
