Set in 1920's during the British Raj, the film is about the breakdown of socio-economic structures, impact of industrialization and non-cooperation movement in rural Bengal.
The new reality changes the usual life in the village of Babylon. Attempts to communize the small town are met with resistance from the rich people living in the town. Soon after he arrives at his new post, a revolt by the local Cossacks breaks out and the fort is besieged by the rebels.
