八重の桜

Yae no Sakura is a 2013 Japanese television series. It is the 52nd NHK taiga drama. The story focuses on Niijima Yae, who is portrayed by Haruka Ayase.

Ryōmaden is the 49th NHK Taiga drama. It was shown on NHK from January 3 to November 28, 2010 spanning 48 episodes. The story centers on the life of 19th-century Japanese historical figures Iwasaki Yatarō and Sakamoto Ryōma. It has been announced that the series will be aired in several other countries, for example Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.

Saigo Takamori, the hero of the Meiji Restoration, was born to a poor, low-ranking samurai family in the Satsuma domain (present day Kagoshima Prefecture). His simple honesty caught the attention of its charismatic feudal lord of Satsuma, Shimazu Nariakira. Nariakira’s assertion that the love of people is what will enrich and strengthen the nation captivated Saigo who took on Nariakira’s secret mission and eventually became a key person for Satsuma. Not a portrait of him survives today and much of his life is a mystery. He is a man who was twice exiled and thrice married. He overthrew the Tokugawa Shogunate with exceptional bravery and action. Although he accomplished the restoration, he lost his life in a fight with the new Meiji government.

While working honestly on that mission, he became disgusted by a colleague who only thought about his career advancement, and soon he abandoned all his desires and began to think about a retired life

Based on the novel by Jirō Asada, the TV movie depicts the lives of the Shinsengumi warriors during the turmoil of the late Edo period.

Shinsengumi! is a Taiga drama television series produced by Japanese broadcaster NHK. It was a popular drama about the Shinsengumi, a Japanese special police force from the Bakumatsu period.

密命 寒月霞斬り

陽だまりの樹

The manga series was adapted to anime by Madhouse Studios and premiered in Japan on NTV on April 4, 2000.

The story is set in Edo's Fukagawa district, where the heroine, Oichi, dreams of becoming a doctor and assists her father, a physician named Shōan. With a cheerful and positive outlook, Oichi, together with a local police chief, delves into the darkness of human nature, solving mysteries along the way. While the story offers the thrill of a period mystery with unexpected culprits, it is also a coming-of-age tale of Oichi as she struggles and ultimately carves out her own path using her unique powers.

小吉の女房

A heartwarming family drama set in the Edo period. The story revolves around Onobu, wife of a poor Hatamoto (direct retainer of the Shogun) Kokichi, and her family.

徳川無頼帳

Matsudaira Tadateru (Shin'ichi Chiba) the sixth son of Tokugawa Ieyasu that was stripped of his title and began life under an assumed name in the Red Light district of Edo. He solves crimes, heals the sick, saves the Geisha from evil Samurai and along the way he teams up with Yagyu Jubei (a role played numerous times by Chiba himself). Awesome Samurai Action.

The 8th Tokugawa shogun, Yoshimune, sets up a suggestion box to hear the complaints of the common people. However, not all the complaints were addressed.
